Jack’s Run
By: Roland Smith
“The Hook”
"That’s what happened,' Jack said. He handed Commander If to Catalin Cristobal. 'I think this is yours. I think he belongs to the both of us'. Cat said, taking the battered astronaut. They were sitting in Sam Sebesta’s old room at the Nevada Hotel in Elko. Jack had his leg propped up on the bed. The desert sunlight coming through the window was beginning to fade. They had been in the room for hours talking…" (Ch.57)

The Hook
ReplyDelete“Alonzo leaned toward the screen, tempted to jump up and punch the air himself. She was no longer blonde and blue-eyed, but there was no mistaking the voice, or the song, which he had last heard in Elko, Nevada.” (p.71)
“A man grabbed Mack as soon as he stepped through the door. He gave the man a head butt in the nose and drove him back into the wall.
‘Run Christine!’
But it was too late, and there were too many of them. Another man ran up and slugged Mack in the stomach. He doubled over, gasping for breath. His arms were jerked behind him, and his wrists were clinched tight with plastic manacles.” (p.78)
“ ‘Get the board I cut!’ he shouted at Joanne. ‘We have to wedge the door closed!’…Jack retrieved the key ring Snake-Eyes had left dangling in the front door. On it was a small handcuff key. He unlocked Joanne’s cuffs. Snake-Eyes was still yelling and pounding on the door…Instead of answering, he locked the door, then hit the key with the hammer, breaking it off in the lock.” (p.160-162)
“It wasn’t until he was strapping on his gun belt that he remembered to check the handheld computer. He retrieved it from his dresser and read the message from Alzono:
Kill the boy now.” (p. 172)

Do you like action-packed adventure books with plenty of suspense? If you do, you would definitely love Jack’s Run (the sequel to Zach’s Lie) by Roland Smith. After the Osborne family is relocated from Elko, Nevada, Jack joins his sister, Joanne, in L.A. while their parents go to trial in Atlanta to keep Alonzo in jail for good. When Alonzo saw Joanne on tv, he had his workers come and kidnap the kids. They are taken out of the country to a secret location. Alonzo threatened to kill Jack and Joanne if they didn’t follow his instructions. If you want to see if the family can survive, read Jack’s Run.
*Before reading Jack’s Run, we highly suggest reading Zach’s Lie to fully understand the plot.
