Dog Whisperer The Rescue by Nicholas Edwards

"The Hook"

"I think she wants you to do it for her,'Emily said.
Her mother shrugged. "Okay," she said, and wiped the washcloth lightly across the top of Josephine's head.
Josephine reacted with an expression of complete cat horror, and leaped back onto the dresser to safety. That was pretty funny, and normally, Emily would have laughed but she still felt strange.Confused.A little bit dizzy."(pages 6-7)

"This time, part of her knew that it really was only a dream, but she still felt as though she was drowning. The waves seemed bigger than ever, and there were rocks around too, because she kept chrashing into them which hurt. It seemed to take forever, but finally, she managed to wake herself up. She pulled her quilt closer, shivering and scared. Water seemed to be pouring all over the place, and at first she was very confused. Then she realized that it was raining outside."(page 18)

"Josephine jumped over to the windowsill and began to pace back and forth, with her tail whipping from side to side.
Okay there was definitly somthing out there.but her cat, Josephine, didn't seem nervous; she seemed uneasy. Anxious. Worried."(page 21)

"She walked down to the edge of the grass, above the rocks, and towards one of their neighbors houses.
She squined through the fog, but all that she could see was waves chrasing aginst the rocks. Lots of rocks. The Peabodys' dinghy, tied to thier dock, and bobbing up and down in the choppy water. A few lobster buoys. Other than that, she couldn't find anything unusual,or-wait!There was somthing out there!
Emily looked more colsly, and realized that there was a large, white shape on the rocks was it an old sail, maybe? Or a piece of plastic, or some Styrofoam? But the shape seemed to big for that. What it looked like was an animal of some kind. In fact, it looked like a polar bear."(pages 24,25,and 26)

"No matter what her parents did, or said Emily couldn't stop crying.
It had been days. How could his owners show up, out of nowhere, after days? It wasn't fair. It wasn't right. It had to be a mistake.
'The people say their dog fell over their fishing boat'her mother told her gently.'And that they tried to save him, but they thought he had drowned.'
Emily dragged her sleeve acroos her eyes. 'Why didn't they look for him? Didn't they care?"(page 192)

They were supposed to go over to Oceanside Animal Hospital at ten thirty to meet Zack's real owner, who was apparently a man named Mr. McGuire. With every minute that passed, Emily got more and more upset. If it had been her dog-and he was her dog!-she would have gotten her parents to drive her over the night before, as soon as she heard that someone had found him. She would never have wanted to wait until the next day to see him.
It wasen't fair.
And if Zack had come to her for a reason, why was he going to be taken away like this? That wasen't fair, either.
Crying so much was upsetting him, though, and she tried to be brave, for his sake. Maybe he loved her and his old owners, and she shouldn't do anything to make him feel unhappy. She should just pat him and hug him and feed him like this was a normal day, so he wouldn't feel as terrible as she did.(pages 202 and 203)

Emily stood there, not sure what was going on-or what to say or do.Dr. Kasanofsky's shirt was ripped, and it looked like his glasses might be broken, too.'Go back outside, Emily!' He said sharply.(page 207)

"Reccomendation"

Have you ever found something and then had to give it back? And don't know how painful it will be? I know I have. Well, in this story Emily sees something on the Peabody's rocks in their backyard. At first, she dosen't know what to think of this creature. So Emily decides to take a closer look for herself.Emily can see while shes in the waiting room at the hospital and looking at what happened to Mr.Kasanofsky she easily knows that the story the men are telling them is not the true , and in fact its not anything near the truth. I can relate to this because I have a dog, too. I think anyone who loves animals would love reading this book because it kept me on the edge of my seat! I loved reading and I hope you do too. If you want to find out what happens to Emily and Zack and find out who Zack is, you'll have to read this amazing book!

The Dollhouse Murders

Hook
“Amy shook her head. ‘I’m going to play detective and find out for myself. I know the year they died -1952- and I’m going to go through the obituaries in the Claiborne News
for that year and see what I can learn. It was an unusual accident, maybe there’ll be a news article about it, too. Want to help me look?” (pg.47)

Recommendation
Have you ever felt so scared you thought you were going to scream? We have when reading this book. When Amy saw a light in her dollhouse she got from her grandmother she started screaming! Then she heard a soft moan like a doll crying. We enjoyed this book because it was suspenseful and creepy at times. This story is about a dollhouse that is haunted by a murder’s past we recommend this book to people who can handle gruesome stuff.

The End Of The Beginning

"The Hook"

" Avon, a rather small snail, read a book every day. He loved to read beacuse books told him al about the things that creatures did when they went on adventures. Now, Avon had noticed that when creatures finished thier adventures, and when the stories ended, the creatures were awlays happy. Because Avon had never had an adventure of his own, the more he read, the sadder he became. It was absolutely necessary, he decided, to have adventures for himself. Only then would be happy. He sighed. ' No adventures will ever come my way.'

A newt was passing by overheard Avon's words.' Nay,lad, dont say such things.(pg.12)

' I rather think', said the ant,'it's just the end of the beginning.'

Grab Hands and Run

The "Hook"

"A MESSAGE"
"It's hot in our yard. I'm happy to open the door to the house, which is built out of concrete blocks and is always shady and cool. I see a piece of paper stuck under the door, just inside. I pick it up. 'Mama! Paloma! I'm home.' She wants to know even if she is taking a shower out back in the washhouse.
Paloma doesn't answer. And Romy's not around either. Maybe they're out together. I read the note while I was going to get a glass of water. The handwriting was clumsy. Bigger and shakier than Romy's.
LEAVE AND DON'T COME BACK, IF NOT, YOU DIE!" (before chapter 1)

"The bridge at Hondo is a trap Plaomita,' Josephina reminds mama anxiously. 'Stay away from there.' Josephina is up before dawn to make coffee.
We've rested for two days, and Paloma thinks we need to move on.
I have begged to stay here. We could make ourselved useful helping Father Ramon and Josephina." (Page 64)

"As Romy goes into these woods in Texas, her face is like a mask carved of olive wood, with beads of sweat around the eyes and a whiteness around the mouth.
Romy, let's pretend. You and I will be caballeros, knights of old San Jorge and San Miguel. The snakes wil be the dragons! I pick up a stick for both of us.
This is your lance- here! Put Cipito in your shirt. Now!" (Page 121)

"We have received a letter from your friend Rafeal.'Not from jacinto?' I manage to ask. Rafael has written that your father, Jacinto, is dead." (page 147)

Have you ever felt alone? Have you ever felt like you can trust someone, and they betray you? Well in this story Felipe, Romy and Paloma get let down a lot. No Right Turn

The Hook

"I heard the gunshot and I knew what happened even before I made it downstairs to dads office. I knew what he'd done."[page 1]
"I walk into the house after school drop my junk by the door. I about jump out of my skin."
[page 9]

Recommendation
Have you ever been in a situation when you were terrified? If so what did you do? If you haven't put yourself in Jordan's shoes. He heard a loud noise from his dads office. Jordan was terrified of the noise because he didn't know what it was. The noise sounds like a gunshot so Jordan goes down stairs to dad's office to find out what happened. Jordan's terrified because he hopes nothing happened to his dad.I met this author and he gives you a lot of details and you can visualize what's happening. This is a very suspenseful book. Sand Dollar Summer

"The Hook"
"Free grabbed Babe the big Newfoundland, by the collar and tugged him away form Shirley. Of course, he cold not have done it if Babe had not wanted to cooperate, but Babe generally tries to accommodate you once he gets the drift of what you want. Shirley left, still shooting glances of the viscous drool on her pants.
Penny lived alone next door, her husband dead, her kids grown and gone. She and my mom had struck an odd friendship: single career supermom meets old fashion housewife.' But like my mom says , 'If it ain't broke, then don't fix it.'

'Well,' Penny said, with one of those fake good cheers.'I don't know who adults think they're fooling'."I'm sure your mom will be home soon. Probably a flat tire or something.

No way,Free and I both knew that. Mom hated cell phones, but flat tires were one of the reasons she carried one. If she wasn't answering her cell phone, there was a reason.

We were eating turkey sandwiches when there was a knock on the door. Free and I looked at each other and we knew. Penny took a little longer to catch on, but she toppled on to it as well when she opened the door and saw a guy in a unifrom standing there. Blue uniform.Shiny badge.Crisp billed hat, which he took off when Penny answered the door.

'Oh no,' Penny said, then put her hand to her mouth. She stepped outside and shut the door behind her. I opened it again and heard the cop say in midsentence, 'Emergency room.' Penny turned to us we could see that her eyes were already that funny watery red that adults eyes go when they try not to cry."(pages 13-14)
