Did you ever think you could succeed in a professional sport with just one arm? A teenager named Bethany Hamilton has. Soul Surfer is about Bethany, who is now a woman pro-surfer. The book cover states “A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board”. This book is about surviving a terrible accident of losing a limb to a shark.
It is a well-written and interesting book for 5th Graders. There are many descriptions of beautiful Hawaii. Bethany’s stories about her family and friends are fun to read.
I do not recommend this book to sensitive people, or to those who scare easily. Also, if you do not believe in God, you may not enjoy this book.
Readers with strong religious beliefs will enjoy this book. I recommended it to all who are facing struggles in their own lives. If you plan on visiting Hawaii, you might like this book, too. Rush to your library before someone else checks it out!
